IBM inks Georgia asset management deal

Looking to overhaul its asset-management system, the state of Georgia has hired IBM Corp. to manage its IT assets as well as its fleet and facilities inventory.
The eight-month, $2.9 million enterprise asset management system pact also calls for IBM of Armonk, N.Y., to document and process the state's surplus assets and inventory.
IBM will implement enterprise software from MRO Software Inc. of Bedford, Mass., to help the state optimize the longevity and productivity of its assets and manage its fleet of more than 21,000 vehicles.
The two companies also will train the state's purchasing staff so that state employees will be able to take over the new management system after the contract ends.
Georgia expects to save $25 million in fleet management costs during the first year, IBM said in a statement.
IBM has more than 329,000 employees and had annual sales of $96.2 billion in fiscal 2005. The company ranks No. 14 on Washington Technology's 2005 Top 100 list of federal prime contractors.
