Serena Software inks U.S. Customs security deal

Serena Software Inc. has won two contracts totaling more than $45 million over a five-year period to help the U.S. Customs and Border Protection agency manage its security initiatives.

On a typical day, the U.S. Customs and Border Protection agency processes more than one million passengers, authorizes nearly 65,000 cargo shipments and collects nearly $75 million in revenue.

To help the agency meet that mission Serena Software Inc. was awarded two blanket purchase agreements totaling more than $45 million over a five-year period to help the agency manage its security initiatives.

The agency uses Serena's ChangeMan Dimensions solution to enforce processes across its organization, providing control and traceability over software changes. Having visibility into changes is essential to ensuring the quality and integrity of the applications the agency maintains.

With about 40,000 employees, Customs and Border Protection relies on technology such as ChangeMan Dimensions to help users perform a number of mission-critical operations, said Serena officials.

Serena of San Mateo, Calif., has about 750 employees and annual sales of $208.1 million, according to Hoover's Online of Austin, Texas.
