Air Force buys Gateway PCs

Under an $8 million contact, the U.S. Air Force bought Gateway E-4300 desktops and services for bases around the globe.

Under an $8 million contact, the U.S. Air Force bought Gateway E-4300 desktops and services for bases around the globe, said Gateway Corp. officials in Irvine, Calif.

Gateway also signed a five-year agreement with the Air Force to allow the company to bid for a new line of specifically designed enterprise-level IT products.

Through the Air Force's proprietary online purchasing tool, Gateway provided 9,885 E-4300 customized enterprise-class systems.

Gateway customized the desktops for integration into secure networks by integrating smart card enabled Cherry Secure Keyboards.
