Project: Videoconferencing system
Agency: West Virginia Supreme Court of Appeals
* Polycom Inc., Pleasanton, Calif.
* Verizon Inc., New York
Create a safer, more efficient way for suspects to appear before judges in the mostly rural state.
Polycom supplied a videoconferencing system
that includes an easy-to-use remote control.
Training usually takes less than an hour. T1 lines
were installed in all courtrooms and jails that have the system.
The state saved about $30 million in transportation
costs in the first year of using the system.
Corrections employees don't have to spend hours transporting suspects. Reducing transportation
time is safer for prisoners and corrections
