Qwest wins HITS subcontract

Qwest Communications International Inc. has won a subcontract to provide enhanced networking capability to the Department of Housing and Urban Development Department.

Qwest Communications International Inc. won a subcontract worth more than $19 million to provide enhanced networking capability to the Housing and Urban Development Department, the company said today.

The contract consists of a five-month, $1.1 million initial award and nine one-year options, and was awarded by Lockheed Martin Corp. under HUD's Information Technology Services contract. Qwest will provide its iQ Networking services to HUD, allowing the department to transfer data more efficiently between almost 100 field locations and six regional offices.

Based in Denver, Qwest employs more than 40,000 workers and had 2004 operating revenue of $13.8 billion and a net loss of almost $1.8 billion. The carrier is No. 55 on Washington Technology's 2005 Top 100 list of prime federal government IT contractors.
