Sprint captures DISA work in Japan and Guam

Sprint Corp. won several prime contracts, totaling $16.6 million, from the Defense Information Systems Agency to provide data connectivity via international private lines for Defense Department facilities within Japan and between Japan and Guam, the company said today.

The new contracts cover leases from 10 years to 12 years.

"This additional connectivity will help the Defense Department meet the growing needs of its agencies," said Tony D'Agata, vice president and general manager of Sprint's government systems division.

Sprint's teammates include NTT Communications Corp., KDDI Corp., Japan Telecom Co. Ltd, Tyco International Ltd. and the Guam Telephone Authority.

The Overland Park, Kan., telecom company employs approximately 59,900 workers and had 2004 revenue of $27.4 billion. Its government systems division of Reston, Va., provides wireless and landline services for federal and state government customers.
