Maximus gets Medicare appeals work

Maximus Inc. has won a $20 million contract from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services to review appeals of Medicare fee-for-service claim denials.

Maximus Inc. has won a $20 million contract from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services to review appeals of Medicare fee-for-service claim denials.

Maximus of Reston, Va., will handle all fiscal intermediary Medicare Part A denials for the eastern half of the United States. The project is the first Medicare contract award under the new qualified-independent contractor program. Contractors in the program serve as an independent source of appeals for Medicare denials.

In this work, Maximus also operates CMMS' Medicare pharmacy drug discount appeal project, Office of Personnel Management federal employee health benefits appeal project and 30 state appeal programs.

Maximus offers program management, consulting and IT services, and has 5,100 employees. Its annual sales total $603.8 million.
