Global warning system gets support

Through its Public Warning Network Challenge, the Internet Society last week called for collaborators for an all-media, all-hazards public warning system.

"It makes no sense to continue building a separate public warning system for each particular threat," said the society, which is in Geneva but has a U.S. office in Reston, Va.

The U.S. Geological Survey and the international Global Spatial Data Infrastructure Association have endorsed the effort.
