I.D. Systems wins USPS wireless vehicle management deal

I.D. Systems Inc., a provider of wireless solutions for asset management, won a three-year contract from the U.S. Postal Service to implement a wireless solution to track and manage vehicles, the company announced this week.

The contract has an initial value of $4 million to I.D. Systems, but could be worth more if all options are exercised.

I.D. Systems of Hackensack, N.J., will provide turnkey implementation services and technical support for the vehicle tracking and management system.

The company's subcontractor, Unisys Corp of Blue Bell, Pa., will assist with implementation and provide hardware installation, user training and help desk services.

I.D. Systems initially will install the tracking system at eight major Postal Service facilities. The system eventually might be deployed at as many as 460 facilities of varying size nationwide, the company said.

The company's solution consists of intelligent wireless devices installed on vehicles, a communication infrastructure and client-server software for access control, analysis of usage and real-time location tracking.
