Viisage Technology Inc. has won four contracts totaling $10.9 million to provide state drivers' licensing and identity theft and fraud protection solutions.

Viisage Technology Inc. has won four contracts totaling $10.9 million to provide state drivers' licensing and identity theft and fraud protection solutions, the company announced this week.

The Billerica, Mass.-based company received awards from Maryland, Wisconsin, and two states that asked to remain unnamed in the company's announcement.

Under a $7 million contract, the company will provide the Wisconsin Department of Motor Vehicles secure digital drivers' licenses. The agreement includes optional provisions for a range of the company's identity solutions over the life of the contract.

Under a two-year, $2 million subcontract with Hewlett-Packard Co. of Palo Alto, Calif., the company will continue producing secure drivers' licenses and identification documents for the Maryland Department of Motor Vehicles.

The other two contracts totaling $1.9 million with the unnamed states are to augment identify theft and fraud protection initiatives using the company's face recognition technology. The technology is being integrated as part of statewide programs to help protect residents against identity crimes and threats by ensuring each driver's license is granted only to the rightful owner.

Viisage provides secure identification documents in 15 states. Of those states, eight have adopted the company's face recognition solutions to assist in identifying people and enhancing identity theft and fraud protection programs, the company said.

Viisage, a provider of advanced technology identity solutions, has about 200 employees and annual sales of $37 million.
