PEC nabs Education program support deal

PEC Solutions Inc. will provide support services for the Education Department's Office of Migrant Education, the company announced this week.

PEC Solutions Inc. has won a four-year, $6 million contract from the Education Department to provide support services for the agency's Office of Migrant Education, the company announced this week.

PEC of Fairfax, Va., will offer information technology acquisition and program management support for the Migrant Student Information Exchange project.

The company initially will support several areas including user requirements definition, assessment of technology used to link distributed databases and support related to acquiring software and implementation of the system.

As the project proceeds, PEC may assist in other areas by providing subject matter expertise and analysis, performing independent validation and verification and quality assurance and conducting performance monitoring.

The Migrant Student Information Exchange project encourages states, school systems and the Education Department to share information to determine the number of migratory children in each state. The system helps the Education Department meet legislative mandates to ensure all migrant students meet state academic standards and graduate from high school, the company said.

PEC is a professional services company specializing in Web-based IT systems for government agencies. The company has more than 1,200 employees and annual sales of $172 million. It ranks No. 89 on Washington Technology's 2004 Top 100 list, which measures federal contracting revenue.
