M/A-Com wins radio deal with Md. county

M/A-Com Inc. has won an $8.4 million contract from Cecil County, Md., to provide an interoperable communications solution for the county's public safety agencies, the company announced this week.

M/A-Com of Lowell, Mass., will provide a VHF analog and digital communications network that will replace the county's conventional low-band system and serve as the backbone of an interoperable communications system.

The new system also will let Cecil County send voice communication through the Maryland Eastern Shore Interoperability Network. The network, which M/A-Com is installing, is designed to serve first responders in the nine counties located along the Eastern Shore of the Chesapeake Bay.

M/A-Com, a provider of communications systems and equipment for public safety, utility, federal and commercial markets, is a unit of Tyco Electronics Corp. of Harrisburg, Pa.

Tyco has 81,000 employees and annual sales of $10.3 billion, according to Hoover's Online of Austin, Texas.
