Spectra Logic plans federal unit

Spectra Logic, a manufacturer of data storage products, is launching a new business unit dedicated to the federal sector, the company said.

With the division, called Spectra Logic Federal, the Boulder, Colo.-based company hopes to increase its federal sales which have accounted for one quarter of the company's North American revenue since it started its government sales program two years ago.

Installations of Spectra Logic's data storage products in federal agencies have shot up 225 percent since the federal sales program started, the company said. Its products have been installed in more than 230 agencies in 25 major federal departments nationwide. The company's major customers include the Defense, Energy, Health and Human Services and State departments and prime defense contractors.

"Expanding relationships with and better serving government customers help us achieve company growth expectations," said Brian Grainger, who was named director of federal sales and founder of Spectra Logic Federal.

The privately owned company expects revenue of around $70 million for fiscal 2005, Grainger said.
