Federal integration sales outpace other markets

Gartner Inc. report says systems integrators who focused on selling services to the federal government saw their market grow 8.5 percent between 2002 and 2003.

Other systems integrators comprised the remaining 69.3 percent market share.Gartner obtained its data from its enterprise solutions market share database, which provides vendor revenue, market share and market size for IT services by region.The preliminary data were developed using secondary research and modeling to provide estimates of prior-year results. Gartner's enterprise solutions worldwide preliminary market share database is available to certain subscribers of the company's IT service cluster products. The Stamford, Conn.-based company did not say when it would issue the final market share results for the period.

Systems integrators who focused on selling services to the federal government saw their market grow 8.5 percent between 2002 and 2003, compared to a lackluster 3.5 percent growth rate for the worldwide market, according to the preliminary results from a report by Gartner Inc.

Systems integrators that sold services to local governments saw their market increase 5.8 percent, according to the report.

The IT market research company's report said that in 2003, systems integrators in the United States grew through acquisitions and sales to the public sector because the commercial sector spent cautiously on applications.

The report also listed the top 10 worldwide systems integrators by revenue.

These companies accounted for 30.7 percent of the global systems integration market.

The companies are listed in descending order, followed by their respective global market share:

  • Accenture Ltd. - 3.7 percent

  • Fujitsu Ltd. - 3.6 percent

  • EDS Corp. - 2.8 percent

  • Computer Sciences Corp. - 2.7 percent

  • NTT Data Corp. - 2.4 percent

  • Lockheed Martin Corp. - 2.1 percent

  • Capgemini S.A. - 2 percent

  • Hitachi Ltd. - 2 percent

  • NEC Corp. - 1.8 percent
