DHS criticized for IT management

The Homeland Security Department's sluggish progress on an IT strategic plan, enterprise architecture, capital planning and investment control are jeopardizing billions of dollars of systems investment, the General Accounting Office said in a May 25 report.

The congressional audit agency urged DHS to restrict spending on systems projects to those with high priority and consider increasing the chief information officer's authority. Congress is reviewing legislation that could strengthen the CIO's authority.
