Accenture wins exchange service work worth $10 million

Contract covers modernizing the global merchandising system for the Army and Air Force Exchange Service.

Accenture Ltd. won a $10 million contract for modernizing the global merchandising system for the Army and Air Force Exchange Service, the company said today.

The exchange service provides products and services to more than 11.5 million customers in its retail stores in 50 states, 35 countries and five territories and to military personnel in Iraq and Afghanistan.

The merchandising system performs various functions, including inventory and price management, invoice management, sales audits, demand forecasting and data warehousing.

The Hamilton, Bermuda, company, will design, develop and test software modules to enhance the merchandising system's performance by increasing inventory controls, lowering costs of operations and improving customer service, according to Accenture.

The company also will deploy the system and provide training and support.

Accenture is a global management consulting, technology services and outsourcing company with approximately 90,000 employees worldwide. It had revenue of $11.8 billion for the year ended Aug. 31, 2003, and is No. 24 on Washington Technology's 2004 Top 100 list of contractors, ranked according to their federal IT prime contracting revenue.
