Texas city re-ups ACS for IT outsourcing

Affiliated Computer Services Inc. has won a seven-year, $30 million contract extension from Carrollton, Texas, to provide information technology outsourcing services.

Affiliated Computer Services Inc. has won a seven-year, $30 million contract extension from Carrollton, Texas, to provide information technology outsourcing services, the company announced today.

Under the terms of the extension, ACS of Dallas will continue to manage the city's IT operations and provide a broad range of IT services.

These services include operation and support of the city's data center, help desk support, applications supports, network and telecommunications management, desktop support, and operation and maintenance of the city's 800-megahertz trunked radio system.

ACS also will be responsible for operating and maintaining the public safety system, including police and fire records management, computer-aided dispatch and mobile data terminals.

The contract extension signals the continued willingness of the city and company to collaborate to maintain and improve services during difficult financial times, said Lon Fairless, Carrollton's IT manager.

"This contract affords us the opportunity to help streamline IT operations and achieve strategic IT objectives that meet the high expectations of the Carrollton community," he said.

ACS, a provider of business process and information technology outsourcing solutions to commercial and government clients, has more than 40,000 employees and annual sales of $3.7 billion.
