DoD awards risk management contract

Digital Sandbox Inc. won a sole source contract from the Defense Department and the Naval Warfare Systems Command to provide risk management software to federal, state and local agencies.

The contract is for one year, worth, $1 million, and two one-year options. If the options are exercised, the contract is worth nearly $5 million, the Reston, Va.-based company said.

Digital Sandbox's Site Profiler risk management software will support homeland security decision makers and field personnel who perform public safety, critical infrastructure protection and emergency management duties. Digital Sandbox will also customize Site Profiler software to meet the requirements of Defense Department and other users as appropriate, as well as provide associated training, documentation and support.

"Given the constantly changing nature of risk in today's shifting threat environment, it is essential that our frontline is armed with an equally flexible, real-time system," said Anthony Beverina, president and chief operating officer at Digital Sandbox.

According to the company, Site Profiler helps organizations implement a strategic, enterprise-wide risk management program by understanding risks, prioritizing threats and allocating resources to protect citizens and critical assets.

Site Profiler was developed in conjunction with the Defense Department, the Department of Homeland Security and the Justice Department. It is currently used to support risk management initiatives for Tampa, Fla., and the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, as well as several federal agencies.

Privately held Digital Sandbox was founded in 1998. Amit Yoran, director of the Homeland Security Department's National Cyber Security Division, was a Digital Sandbox director before giving up the position to join DHS.
