New telemaintenance tool

Interstate Electronics Corp., a subsidiary of New York-based L-3 Communications Corp., has built a new wireless mobile computing system for network-centric, predictive telemaintenance.

Predictive telemaintenance systems monitor vehicles and equipment in the field, and relay data to a center using wireless communications, such as satellite, radio, cellular or Internet protocol with virtual private networking security. The ruggedized, 18-pound device has an integrated computer, and GPS tracking integrates with the sensors in military vehicles to diagnose on-board systems. The new device can communicate between vehicles or send data back to a central maintenance database.
