IRS extends risk management software deal

Xacta Corp. gets a one-year follow-on contract to provide the Internal Revenue Service with certification and accreditation software.

Xacta Corp., a subsidiary of Ashburn, Va.-based Telos Corp., has received a $2 million one-year follow-on contract to provide the Internal Revenue Service with certification and accreditation software.

The IRS will continue to use Xacta Web C&A software to manage risk and comply with congressional security mandates, according to the company. The software was developed to enable compliance with the government's information security standards. It automates certification and accreditation, and guides users through a process that helps determine risk posture and assess compliance with security regulations.

Before implementing Xacta software two years ago, the IRS certified individual systems manually, which can be expensive and time-consuming and may not account for the security posture of the overall technology architecture. According to Xacta, IRS officials found they could certify systems five to 10 times faster with the new software.

In December, the Defense Department signed a contract to use Xacta Web C&A, which also enables compliance with the Department of Defense Information Technology Security Certification and Accreditation Process.

With 2002 revenue of $90.5 million, Telos ranked No. 57 on Washington Technology's 2003 Top 100 list, which measures federal contracting revenue.
