Colorado names Williams technology secretary

Leroy Williams has been appointed by Colorado Gov. Bill Owens to serve as the state's secretary of technology effective Jan. 1, the governor's office announced this month.

Williams, who has served as state chief information officer since 2002, replaces John Hansen, who resigned in order to return to the private sector.

In addition to serving as state CIO, Williams has worked for a number of companies both inside and outside of the technology sector, including Qwest Communications International Inc., U.S. West Inc. and Wells Fargo and Co.

He is an Army veteran and holds a bachelor's degree from Denver Technical College and a master's degree in business administration from the University of Denver.

"I'm very pleased that Leroy Williams will be adding the position of secretary of technology to his CIO portfolio," said Owens. "As CIO, he has been a valuable leader in improving our technology infrastructure and has earned the respect of leaders throughout Colorado."
