Rep. Tom Davis, R-Va., is asking whether the General Services Administration's e-authentication initiative will be completed by March, and how the project's delays are affecting other e-government initiatives.

Davis, who is chairman of the Government Reform Committee, wrote to GSA Administrator Stephen Perry to request a briefing.

"The E-Authentication Gateway is critical to the federal government's effort to encourage stakeholders to use electronic processes to conduct transactions with the government and help make e-government a reality," Davis wrote.

An upcoming General Accounting Office report found limited progress in areas such as policy, acquisition and technology development.
