Six Marine Corps sites have entered the assumption-of-responsibility phase in the transition to the Navy-Marine Corps Intranet.

Electronic Data Systems Corp. has taken responsibility for the operation and maintenance of information services at the Navy Annex, Marine Barracks in Washington, Henderson Hall in Arlington, Va., the Pentagon, Marine Forces Reserve Headquarters and Marine Corps Logistics Base in Albany, Ga.

Last month, the Marine Corps Base at Quantico, Va., entered the assumption-of-responsibility phase. NMCI ultimately will link voice, video and data communications at more than 300 Navy and Marine Corps installations.

Additional sites the Marines plan to transition in May include Training and Education Commands at Camp Johnson and Camp Geiger, N.C., and Marine Corps Recruit Depot at Parris Island, S.C.

Contractor teams are collecting data about the sites' IT hardware and security. They also are counting the legacy applications the base workers use.
