Four companies have formed a national alliance to provide 511 traveler information telephone services to state and local agencies.

The alliance members are PBS&J Inc., Miami; SRS/Westwood One Inc., New York; Tele Atlas Inc., Menlo Park, Calif.; and Meteorlogix, Minneapolis. They will offer content, integration of existing intelligent transportation services and project management capabilities, the companies said.

The alliance seeks to capitalize on the desire of state and local governments around the nation to implement a toll-free phone service similar to 911 that would provide local traffic information. *
