ACS wins $400 million Texas Medicaid, case management contract

Affiliated Computer Services Inc. won a $400 million contract from the Texas Health and Human Services Commission to support the state's Medicaid program and other healthcare programs, the company announced Monday.

The contract is for four years and has two one-year options. If all options are exercised, the contract could be worth more than $400 million, the company said.

ACS of Dallas will provide fiscal agent and administrative services support for the state's Medicaid traditional fee-for-service program. The company also will provide support for the Texas Health Network primary care case management and managed care program.

Accenture Ltd., Hamilton, Bermuda, will be responsible for technology for the ACS-led team, including the transition from the incumbent service provider, the provision of infrastructure technology and support for all program management.

Among the services Accenture will deliver are data center operations, hardware and software procurement and application management services.

Drawing on practices developed by Accenture's Health Services practice, ACS has designed a portal for the Texas Health and Human Services Commission that will give medical service providers more timely access to claims status and payment histories via the Internet, according to ACS.

Integrating the primary care and fee-for-service contracts allows ACS to combine call center activities, integrate provider education, enrollment and contracting activities, and reduce administrative barriers for providers, ACS said.

With this latest award, ACS now has Medicaid contracts in 13 states and the District of Columbia.

ACS, a provider of business process and information technology outsourcing, has about 40,000 employees and annual revenue of more than $3 billion.
