Alan Balutis has been named president and chief operating officer of Veridyne Inc., an information technology consulting and software company in Broomall, Pa.

Balutis is the former director for management and budget and chief information officer at the Commerce Department. He left government service in 2001 and was named executive director and COO of the Federation of Government Information Processing Councils and the Industry Advisory Council.

Balutis resigned his position with FGIPC and IAC in January, after questions were raised about consulting relationships he had in addition to his role with the two councils.

Veridyne is a privately owned company with a staff of 150 people. The company has 10 offices in the mid-Atlantic region. Balutis will work out of the Arlington, Va., facility, the company said.

Veridyne's government client list includes the departments of Transportation, Agriculture and Commerce, Environmental Protection Agency, Food and Drug Administration, the states of Pennsylvania and Maryland and the city of Philadelphia.
