Balutis adds hat as Veridyne president

Alan Balutis has been named president and chief operating officer of Veridyne Inc., an information technology consulting and software company based in Broomall, Pa.

"Alan brings a wealth of experience in information technology and the federal government," said Sam Patterson, Veridyne's chairman and chief executive officer. "He is exactly what this company needs to get to the next level. We are excited to have him."

Balutis is the former director for management and budget and chief information officer at the Commerce Department. He left government service in 2001 and was named executive director and chief operating officer of the Federation of Government Information Processing Councils and the Industry Advisory Council. Balutis resigned his position with FGIPC and IAC in January, after questions were raised about consulting relationships he had in addition to his role with the two councils.

The Veridyne announcement comes just days after Input Inc., a market research firm in Chantilly, Va., announced that Balutis and two other former government officials were forming a consulting firm, ICG Government, that would work closely with Input to provide advice and consulting services to vendors.

An Input official said Balutis had indicated the possibility of being named to the Veridyne position, but that he would be able to continue consulting on a part-time basis with ICG Government.

Veridyne is a privately owned company with a staff of 150 people. The company has 10 offices in the mid-Atlantic region. Balutis will work out of the Arlington, Va., facility, the company said.

Veridyne's government client list includes the departments of Transportation, Agriculture and Commerce, Environmental Protection Agency, Food and Drug Administration, the states of Pennsylvania and Maryland and the city of Philadelphia.
