PEC gets contract for Homeland transition support

The Immigration and Naturalization Service has issued a $2.6 million task order to PEC Solutions Inc. to assist the agency's move to the Homeland Security Department.

The Fairfax, Va., company, which has a blanket purchasing agreement with INS, will help coordinate and support the agency's restructuring team.

The task order also calls for PEC to provide budget, program and management support services to INS' Immigration Division and help the agency build the System Wide Inventory Program, a system to track all submitted and pending immigration services applications.

INS is scheduled to move to the new department on March 1, when it will be divided between border control activities and immigration services functions.

"INS is still trying to find how they can best support the Department of Homeland Security," PEC vice president John Caron said. "They are working with the Customs Service and other agencies to see how information can be shared and better coordinated to improve security."

In a separate contracting action, INS has awarded a $1.7 million, five-year contract to Sentel Corp. of Alexandria, Va., to develop an electronic reading room for Freedom of Information Act requests. The contract involves scanning thousands of documents and creating a Web site where visitors can view documents about administrative cases, statistical yearbooks and immigration trends.
