PEC Solutions scores second part of criminal justice contract

Mecklenburg County, N.C., picked PEC Solutions Inc. to implement an integrated criminal justice information system, the company announced Oct. 9.


The $17.4 million contract is the second part of a three-stage program. The first phase, already awarded and finished by Fairfax, Va.-based PEC, was to develop a conceptual design for the system. The second phase is for deploying the system throughout Mecklenburg County. The last stage is an option to expand the system to all state counties.


The system "will integrate information among 16 law enforcement and judicial organizations, eliminating duplicate entry, inconsistent information and provide real-time access to critical justice information," said Dwayne Campbell, project director for Mecklenburg County.


PEC and its principal teammate, Justice Systems Inc. of Albuquerque, N.M., will provide software, integration services and case management tools. The PEC team and the county anticipate the system will reduce risk to law enforcement officers and allow the courts to handle increasing workloads while providing improved service to the public.


PEC Solutions had revenue of $109.2 million in fiscal 2001 and employed more than 1,200 people, according to Hoover's, the online business information service based in Austin, Texas.
