SAIC lands Sandia National Labs work

Science Applications International Corp. of San Diego won a contract worth up to $40 million from Sandia National Laboratories to provide desktop computer support to more than a third of the lab's users, SAIC officials announced Sept. 26.

Located in Albuquerque, N.M., and Livermore, Calif., Sandia National Laboratories is an engineering and science laboratory operated by Sandia Corp. for the Department of Energy. Sandia Corp. is a wholly owned subsidiary of Lockheed Martin Corp., Bethesda, Md. SAIC will support three of Sandia's seven computer support units, the company said.


The work will be performed over a two-year period with four two-year options. SAIC will provide systems administration services, working with Sandia computer users regarding their desktop environments, configuring and installing new or replacement desktops and servers, and provide videoconferencing, networking, programming, maintenance and troubleshooting support.


SAIC has supported Sandia on this program since 1997, said Patty Baird, SAIC corporate vice president and operations manager.


Work will be performed from SAIC's Information Technology Solutions Group office in Oak Ridge, Tenn., and Albuquerque, officials said. The ITS Group specializes in information technology outsourcing, desktop engineering and management services, network design and management, and Web-enabled production systems development and maintenance.



According to SAIC, the company is the nation's largest employee-owned research and engineering firm, providing IT, systems integration and Web-based solutions to commercial and government customers. The firms has annual revenue of $6.1 billion and more than 40,000 employees.
