Webversa purchases Semio Corp.

Webversa Inc. has purchased indexing software provider Semio Corp. The transaction closed last week and terms were not disclosed.

Webversa Inc., Reston, Va., a provider of phone-based alerting and enterprise interaction solutions, has purchased indexing software provider Semio Corp., San Mateo, Calif., Webversa announced Aug. 18. The transaction closed last week and terms were not disclosed.According to Tom Lewis, chief executive officer of Webversa, the purchase allows the company to offer more "distributed departmental solutions." Webversa's software allows individuals using only a telephone to access and update information on a computer network. Semio's indexing and categorization engine is geared for enterprise scalability of content searching.Before its sale, Semio, founded in 1996, had more than 100 customers, including government clients such as the Office of the Assistant Secretary of Defense, Army Knowledge Online and the U.S. Postal Service. Founded in 1999, Webversa recently closed a $3.8 million Series B round of financing led by Redleaf Group Inc. It recently delivered its Mobile Enterprise Platform solution to the Army's Military Traffic Management Command, which is using it to monitor Army shipments worldwide. Also, the company signed a partnership with DynCorp, Reston, Va., to integrate Webversa's voice recognition technology into DynCorp's network service monitoring and help desk products.Webversa will retain key Semio employees in sales, technology development and professional services, according to the announcement.
