Science Applications International Corp. has entered into a strategic relationship with OnStream Media of Boca Raton, Fla., to provide customers with Web-based audio and video management services, the company announced July 29.

SAIC of San Diego currently provides technical and business services to OnStream Media under a professional-services agreement. SAIC also has made a minority financial investment in privately held OnStream Media.

OnStream Media is expected to offer SAIC's federal and commercial customers a service that securely encodes, indexes, stores, retrieves and distributes video and audio libraries of nearly unlimited size through an Internet protocol-based global network via the desktop, SAIC said.

"SAIC is supporting OnStream Media in developing a solution that is expected to cost effectively address the needs of managing the growing volumes of digital rich media for the federal government and commercial enterprises," said Bob Young, SAIC senior vice president and Global Telecommunications Group manager.

The service can be made available via the Internet within a secure environment to anyone granted access. SAIC will be designing, building and operating a digital asset management operation center in San Diego that can be used to manage these services, SAIC said.

The partnership will allow SAIC to expand the digital asset management services it offers customers, and it will enable OnStream Media, a small firm, to get the service to market quickly, said Randy Goins, assistant vice president for business development in SAIC's Global Telecommunications Group.

"SAIC has proven expertise in providing security for digital-rich media," said Clifford Friedland, OnStream Media chief executive officer. "Its significant presence and customer base in the areas of government, education, health care, energy, finance and telecommunications can help us grow our technology services as well as our customer base."
