Veridian sees STARS for $154 million

Veridian Corp. won a five-year contract worth as much as $154.4 million for scientific, technical, administrative, research, development, test and evaluation services, or STARS, from the Naval Air Systems Command, Naval Air Warfare Center Weapons Division at China Lake and Point Mugu, Calif.


The contract calls for Veridian, based in Arlington, Va., to support the Navy with a wide range of scientific and technical services involving information technology and network infrastructure relating to the service's development of weapons systems.


"While this is a new contract win for Veridian, we have a proud, 30-year heritage of supporting the Navy and the Naval Air Warfare Center," said Keith Jackson, president of Veridian's engineering division. "This new award signifies an expansion of our service to the Navy and extends our commitment to the mission-critical work they perform."


Approximately 80 percent of the work will be performed at China Lake, the rest at Point Mugu. The project is expected to begin in October and finish in September 2007.

Veridian likely will hire more than 200 employees to support efforts, including studies, analysis and assessments; project planning, technical review and documentation for IT systems; software development; quality assurance and quality control of IT systems; test support services; and management of sensitive and secure data systems.

Revenue in the first year of the contract is expected to be between $15 million and $20 million, the company said.
