Affiliated Computer Services Inc. has acquired Transaction Processing Specialists Inc, a software company specializing in electronic benefits transfer processing and reporting systems, the Dallas-based company announced May 26. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

The acquisition of TPS of Round Rock, Texas, will enable ACS to provide a full-service electronic benefit transaction solution to state and local government and commercial customers, company officials said.

ACS currently offers electronic benefit transaction services in retail management, and the acquisition will allow it to expand those offerings to account processing and help desk services. ACS has about 20 existing EBT contracts and subcontracts, company officials said.

TPS' core transaction processing product is its Electronic Payment Processing and Information Control system. The system is a software application written in Java script, which offers government and commercial clients a scalable product to meet evolving processing needs. EPICC offers customers a range of features, including a Web interface, online reporting and Internet access for clients and retailers to review their accounts and transactions.
