Four companies net $1.3 billion VA contract
Compaq Computer Corp., GTSI Corp., MicronPC LLC and PlanetGov Inc. all won seats on the Veterans Affairs Procurement of Computer Hardware and Software-2 contract vehicle.
Four companies have won seats on the Department of Veterans Affairs $1.3 billion Procurement of Computer Hardware and Software-2 contract vehicle, the companies announced April 8.
The winners are Compaq Computer Corp., Houston; GTSI Corp., Chantilly, Va.; MicronPC LLC, Nampa, Idaho; and PlanetGov Inc., Fairfax, Va. They will compete for task orders to provide hardware and software products, architectural support and maintenance and support.
The contract is for one year with options for four one-year extensions. The previous iteration of this contract, known as Peaches, was awarded in 1987 to Compaq and MicronPC, then part of Micron Technology Inc., and had a ceiling of $750 million for each company.
Compaq said it had sales of about $500 million under the first contract. MicronPC declined to reveal how much it sold under the contract.
According to Chuck Kinzel, Compaq's account director for the contract, Compaq will offer hardware as well as support for the enterprise-scaled solutions it developed under the first Peaches contract. For the VA, the company has been supporting the VistA system, which provides administration services for 163 VA hospitals.
The company will also continue work under the contract to support VA's medical imaging system, which stores patient X-rays and CAT scans and other records in a optical disk storage jukeboxes that can be accessed by other hospitals by network.
GTSI said it would offer best-of-breed solutions and has also teamed with IBM Corp. to offer a wide range of that company's notebooks, desktops and servers.
