Defense Department budget numbers show Army IT spending dropping by $200 million, but other branches and Defense agencies will make up the slack in fiscal 2002. Overall, spending on IT and national security systems will hit $22.9 billion in 2002, a modest 3 percent increase. The Defense budget will be the subject of a Federal Sources breakfast briefing Aug. 29.
