Accenture Gets $33.6 Million to Upgrade IRS.gov

Accenture Ltd. won a five-year, $33.6 million project to redesign and support the Internal Revenue Service's Web site, www.irs.gov, the company announced Aug. 13.


This five-year modernization contract calls for a secure, easy-to-navigate design that will make it simpler to find information and tax forms. The proposed design will also provide increased access to persons with disabilities. Additionally, Accenture will support the site's help desk, assisting individuals in finding answers online.


"The ultimate goal is for each IRS Web site user to reach the information he or she is seeking within three clicks," said Stan Gutkowski, managing partner of Accenture's U.S. federal government practice.


The site, now called "The Digital Daily," gets approximately 80 million hits a day.


The redesign will be done by Accenture's federal government group, based in Reston, Va. Accenture will be paid $5.7 million for the contract during the first year, with the remainder being broken into four one-year options.


Network provider Qwest Communications International Inc. of Denver, will host the site.
