Cisco Systems Inc. of San Jose, Calif., launched a new program to provide next-generation technologies to federal, state and local governments.

The Cisco GovNet program offers specially priced technology starter kits. It was created to respond to government agencies that are being asked to do more with fewer resources, said Scott Spehar, vice president of federal operations.

The Cisco GovNet equipment bundles are designed to solve networking challenges common to government agencies, answer critical needs or launch new e-government initiatives quickly and economically, the company said.

Three Cisco bundles are available, each designed, respectively, to prevent hacker attacks, handle increased Web traffic and enable secure routing of traffic within and among agencies.
