RS Information Systems Wins $65 Million Pentagon Contract

RS Information Systems Inc. won a $65 million managed seats and services contract by the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency, a key research arm of the Department of Defense, the company announced June 4.


Under the contract, 75 RSIS employees will provide and manage IT services and systems infrastructure support to DARPA in Arlington, Va., and to remote locations, including technology assistance and network infrastructure support for workstations, servers and applications.

The agency's mission is to maintain U.S. technological superiority by identifying and supporting breakthrough technologies of interest to the military.


"The RSIS contract provides DARPA with a wide range of information technology services that will allow the agency to efficiently and effectively accomplish its mission while also contributing to DoD's small business goals," said Mark Schaeffer, DARPA's deputy director for management operations.


The contract was awarded under the Department of Transportation's Information Technology Omnibus Procurement program, a governmentwide contract that allows federal program offices to obtain technology-related services from qualified contractors.


The partnership of DARPA, ITOP and RSIS shows small business participation in federal contracting is valuable and important, said Rodney Hunt, president and chief executive officer of the McLean, Va., IT management and consulting company.


RSIS, a privately held company Hunt founded in 1992, saw its revenue double to $80 million in 2000 and expects revenue to exceed $130 million this year, the company said. Its staff has grown from 200 at the end of 1998 to more than 1,000 this year.
