EDS, Nestor Traffic Systems Team to Catch Red Light Runners

Electronic Data Systems Corp. and Nestor Traffic Systems Inc. have announced an agreement through which the companies will market technology to catch drivers running red lights and process the resulting citations, the companies said April 18.

Through the agreement, the companies will market a combination of NTS' patented, video-based automated red light enforcement system, known as CrossingGuard, and EDS' integrated camera interface and citation processing services for multiple jurisdictions.

Also as part of the effort, EDS will process $25 million in citations over the next 10 years.

"This combination creates comprehensive enforcement services to counter red light running and promote safer roadways," said Matt Chambers, general manager, EDS' administrative process management. "By combining EDS' business processing, back-office services with Nestor's CrossingGuard product, we bring to market a fully integrated, digital video solution that meets the flexibility of individual police jurisdictions while increasing public safety."

EDS, based in of Plano, Texas, supports red light services in 13 jurisdictions in Maryland and three in North Carolina. Nestor of Providence, R.I., serves municipalities in California and Virginia, with additional installations under way in California, Florida and Illinois.

EDS has about 122,000 employees and had revenue of $19.2 billion in 2000. Nestor Traffic Systems Inc., is an affiliate of Nestor Inc., which has about 60 employees and had revenue of $3.6 million in 2000.
