SAIC Acquires Three Maxwell Units

Science Applications International Corp. of San Diego has acquired three business units of Maxwell Technologies Systems Division Inc. for its Defense Technology Group, the company announced April 2.

Science Applications International Corp. of San Diego has acquired three business units of Maxwell Technologies Systems Division Inc. for its Defense Technology Group, the company announced April 2.

The units are the contract research and development; electronics technology; and high power microwave and pulsed power. The terms of the acquisition were not disclosed.

A total of 103 Maxwell employees are expected to become SAIC employees as a result of the acquisition.

The SAIC Defense Technology Group provides high technology physics and engineering services to support Department of Defense research and development agencies.

"The Maxwell units are complementary to SAIC's R&D capabilities, and will enable us to provide even greater levels of service to our government customers," said Tom Bache, SAIC group senior vice president.

SAIC has more than 41,000 employees and had sales of $5.5 billion in 2000.

Maxwell Technologies Systems Division Inc. is a wholly owned subsidiary of Maxwell Technologies Inc, of San Diego.

Maxwell Technologies Inc. has about 900 employees and had sales of $102.3 million in 2000, according to Hoover's Online of Austin, Texas.
