Deloitte Consulting, NIC Win on Ottawa Contract

Deloitte Consulting has won a contract to develop a Internet portal that will support electronic government services and transactions for the city of Ottawa.


New York-based Deloitte will tackle the project with the assistance of the Canadian subsidiary of National Information Consortium Inc. of Overland Park, Kan., the two companies said Nov. 29.


The Ottawa project is the first international collaboration between Deloitte and NIC resulting from an alliance they formed in August.


Deloitte and NIC will provide the services and infrastructure required to develop and maintain the self-funded portal. Most of the information and services on the portal will be free to the public; however, fees on some services will be used to pay for the portal, said the companies.


Ottawa will retain ownership of and control over all the data and portal operations, the companies said.


Deloitte Consulting is a part of Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu of New York. The company has 90,000 employees and had sales of more than $10.6 billion in 1999, according to Hoover's Online of Austin, Texas.


NIC has contracts and partnerships with 23 states, 81 cities and counties and seven federal agencies. It has about 350 employees and had sales of $19.4 million in the third quarter 2000.
