GTSI Corp., Chantilly, Va., and Resilience Corp., Sunnyvale, Calif., have signed an agreement under which GTSI will resell Resilience's line of hardware fault-tolerant servers.

In a statement announcing the pact, GTSI said it is the first provider to offer the full range of Resilience products and services to the federal, state and local government information technology community.

Federal agencies may purchase Resilience products and services off GTSI's contracts: National Institutes of Health Electronic Computer Store II, and NASA Scientific and Engineering Workstation Procurement II Government Wide Acquisition Contract.

"Many government customers are running applications that simply cannot tolerate the risk of loss of data and transactions associated with software-based fail-over solutions," said Jim Dunn, GTSI's vice president of business development. "Government customers will appreciate this simple, hardware-based approach to addressing the demand for continuous uptime."

Resilient servers run all Solaris applications without modification and are ideal for applications such as firewalls, real-time data collection, license servers, database, communications and monitoring functions and other high-priority applications.

"We are delighted to be working with GTSI," said Denny Olmsted, president and chief executive officer of Resilience. "Our servers are an excellent fit for the government space. They deliver the fault-tolerance that mission-critical government applications require in an affordable, low-maintenance system that runs all Solaris applications."

GTSI, which had 1999 sales of $668.5 million, offers technical support, installation and maintenance services to government customers at the federal, state and local levels. It also resells computers, Unix workstations, software and networking products from more than 2,100 manufacturers. Tech Data Corp., Clearwater, Fla., has launched tdeducation.com, an online resource center designed to meet demand from technology solution providers looking to recruit and retain top information technology talent in a competitive labor market.

The center provides comprehensive information on Tech Data's array of instructor-led and self-paced IT training programs with services ranging from course schedules and promotions to online registration and resource materials, the company said in a Sept. 12 statement announcing the move.

"Study after study has shown certification training to be one of the best means of recruiting and retaining business-critical employees," said C.W. Rogers, Tech Data's vice president of customer education. "Employees value the skills they're developing though continuing education, particularly when it creates opportunity for them to get involved in cutting-edge technology, and employers benefit through increased productivity, quality of staff and ultimately customer satisfaction."

Tech Data offers nationwide, vendor-authorized training and certification programs, including sales and business development courses, seminars and training on strategic technologies. Tech Data offers such services, in conjunction with its authorized training partners, at more than 200 state-of-the-art training facilities throughout the nation.

Tech Data generated sales of $17 billion for its most recent fiscal year, which ended Jan. 31.
