SEPT. 5 ? Electronic Data Systems Corp. of Plano, Texas, launched a new Global Information Assurance Services Group to provide cybersecurity services in the government and commercial markets.

The group, which had its roots in the information assurance work EDS performed for the government, will be based in Herndon, Va. It will offer a full range of global security services to combat cybercrime, intellectual property theft and credit card fraud.

"Concern for security is a significant impediment to realizing full potential in the digital economy," said Dick Brown, EDS chairman and chief executive officer.

Brown said global businesses today "must do all they can to proactively and aggressively protect the security of government and private-sector information. The new EDS organization represents a visible way for EDS to leverage its leadership in the area of cybersecurity."

The Global EDS Information Assurance Services group consists of EDS information assurance teams from around the world. The company consolidated the teams into one organization to support global clients that have an increasing need to secure their computer networks across international borders, company officials said.

EDS Information Assurance Services include assessing risks and identifying gaps; developing, designing and implementing security architectures and policies to address vulnerabilities; conducting independent security evaluations; and training and monitoring.

The company has named EDS executive Shakil Kidwai, who has more than 25 years of experience in the IT and security services markets, to lead the organization.
