GSA's Piatt to Join Booz-Allen & Hamilton

SEPT. 1 - William Piatt, the General Services Administration's chief information officer, is leaving his post to head electronic government initiatives at Booz-Allen & Hamilton Inc. of McLean, Va. His last day is Sept. 30.

Piatt will become director of e-government strategy at the consulting and systems integration company, leading a team that helps agencies implement electronic government programs.

GSA Administrator David Barram said he hopes to name a new CIO in the next few weeks.

At GSA, the CIO serves as the principle advisor to the administrator and all GSA offices on information technology and how to use technology to improve service and performance at the agency.

Before coming to GSA, Piatt held several positions both in and out of government. He was general manager of North American operations for the Swiss medical robotics company, Tecan. He also was an IBM account marketing representative serving Schering Plough.

Piatt also is the former CIO and associate director for management at the Peace Corps.

He joined GSA as CIO for the Public Building Service in February 1999 and was elevated to CIO of the entire agency in June 1999. He oversaw GSA's year 2000 preparations and also helped transform the agency into an electronic business.
