Deloitte Gets Green Light for Motor Vehicle Info System

AUG. 23 ? Deloitte Consulting of New York begins work Aug. 24 on a $17-million project to provide the District of Columbia with a management information system for motor vehicles.
Deloitte Consulting received a notice to proceed Aug. 14 from the district's Department of Motor Vehicles and Office of the Chief Technology Officer. The project will last 18 months and includes a one-year warranty, according to the company.
Deloitte will design and implement the requirements for an integrated driver licensing and motor vehicle management information system. The work also includes conversion training and Web enablement of business functions between government and citizen.
The business functions for the Internet will go live within the 18-month period and likely will include renewal of vehicle registration and issuing of drivers' licenses, said Jon Lemelin, Deloitte Consulting's director of motor vehicle and transportation services.
The system also will be designed to share and receive information with the Social Security Administration and the District of Columbia's courts, police and revenue department.
The contract with Deloitte Consulting follows an earlier business process re-engineering study for the DMV by PricewaterhouseCoopers of New York. Deloitte Consulting has done work for motor vehicle administrations in California, Michigan and Nevada, said Lemelin.
Deloitte Consulting is a part of Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu, which had annual sales of $10.6 billion in 1999, according to Hoover's Online of Austin, Texas.
