Two Contractors Ink Separate Defense Deals

AUG. 17 ? A pair of defense contracts have been awarded for radar research and development and hardware maintenance.


Unisys Corp. of Blue Bell, Pa., won a $6 million contract with the Defense Information Systems Agency to provide hardware maintenance services to DISA's Defense Enterprise Computing Centers, which provide information systems support to warfighters.


The 50-month contract covers 24 ClearPath servers that DISA bought from Unisys between August 1998 and February 1999. Unisys will provide predictive, remedial and preventive service for servers in Ogden, Utah; Oklahoma City; Montgomery, Ala.; and San Antonio.


"Due to the competitive nature of today's hardware maintenance environment, we're excited to have received this award from DISA," said Dan Moats, acting vice president and general manager of the Unisys U.S. Federal Government Group.


"Considering the stringent performance requirements necessary to support DISA's large computing centers, we're pleased that our engineering team was selected," he said.


In a second defense-related transaction, the Air Force awarded a $4.3 million contract to Emergent Information Technologies Inc. of Newport Beach, Calif.


Emergent will work on enhancements to radar systems used for counterdrug surveillance. The Defense Department uses systems known as Relocatable Over the Horizon Radars to provide continuos surveillance of drug trafficking routes in the Caribbean.


Emergent operates a ROTHR test bed site that will be used to test, evaluate and demonstrate new technology.
