Maximus to Help Ga. Parents Get Child-Care Cash

JULY 18 ? Maximus Inc. of McLean, Va., has won an $11.4 million, four-year deal from the Georgia Department of Human Resources to build and operate a Web-based child-care payment system.
Maximus announced July 17 it had received the one-year contract with three option years. In the first year of the contract, the company will design for Georgia a Web-enabled child-care eligibility and payment processing system.
The electronic payment system will allow Georgia state workers to enter eligibility information through the Internet. For their part, providers will be able to determine their payment status and submit their invoices electronically and receive payment by direct deposit.
The electronic system also will document those providers that meet the required state health and safety standards. Maximus plans to operate a call center to handle inquiries from providers.
"This e-government initiative will bring improved access to child-care payment information for providers," said David Mastran, chief executive officer of Maximus. "Child-care providers will be able to submit and receive their payments more quickly, and the system will facilitate timely and personalized resolution of questions and issues."
Georgia distributes $175 million annually in subsidized child-care payments throughout 158 counties. Maximus has operated a child-care payment program for Connecticut since 1997.
Maximus provides state and local governments with program management, consulting and information technology services. These services have helped states with child support enforcement, managed care enrollment and welfare-to-work initiatives.
