Ingram Micro Inc., Santa Ana, Calif., has promoted Bob Laclede to vice president and general manager of its government and education division. He will set strategic direction for the division and oversee new programs for federal, state and local government, as well as education resellers.

Laclede, who was formerly vice president and general manager of Ingram Micro's premium south commercial division, will be based at the company's Washington-area offices. Prior to joining Ingram Micro, Laclede served as vice president of sales for Decision Support Systems, Ashburn, Va.

"The government and education sector represents a healthy opportunity for Ingram Micro and its resellers with continued growth potential," said Laclede, who will supervise the division's team of program, support and operations associates, as well as its sales team.

Ingram Micro Inc. had revenue of more than $28 billion in 1999.Tech Data Corp., Clearwater, Fla., and Seagate Technology Inc. have entered an agreement under which the distributor will provide logistics management and other services for the Scotts Valley, Calif.-based manufacturer of disc drive products.

Beginning July 1, Tech Data will supply technology resellers throughout North America with Seagate's family of Cheetah, Barracuda, Barracuda ATA and U Series hard disc drives and continue to supply Seagate's selection of Hornet and Scorpion tape back-up systems.

The agreement complements Tech Data's long-standing relationship with Seagate. "The importance of solid storage solutions across multiple market segments has never been more critical to the success of any business than it is in the age of the Internet," said Dan Ahlstedt, Tech Data's vice president of components and international marketing.

"Tech Data's long-term focus on strengthening support for information storage resellers, industry-leading electronic commerce capabilities and stability in the market are consistent with Seagate's strategic direction and business model," said Randy Lee, Seagate vice president of Americas Sales.

"It's vitally important we align ourselves with best-in-class business partners like Tech Data that have a clear understanding of the market and the factors driving its success," he added.Gallium Software Corp., La Jolla, Calif., is offering a second package in its InterMAPhics Star Partners software suite, which is designed to provide systems integrators bidding on air traffic management and defense display systems a cost-effective means to establish human computer interface (HCI) specifications.

"Systems integrators often require a quick and easy way to develop display prototypes and/or HCI specifications during the bid and proposal phase of a program. Access to cost-effective [commercial, off-the-shelf] software and services during the bid and proposal phase addresses this need. It also offers contractors the opportunity to evaluate packages before making a full commitment to using the software in the program, when awarded," said Jack Prior, president of Gallium.

Gallium's InterMAPhics product family is a suite of commercial, off-the-shelf software used by agencies worldwide to prototype, develop, and maintain the HCI for their performance-critical systems. Gallium develops HCI software for performance-critical applications in command and control and air traffic management.
