The Air Force plans to release a request for proposals April 28 for a space weather analysis and forecasting system. It is planning a multiple-award contract that will be used to implement future Defense Meteorological Satellite Program requirements.

The Air Force wants to develop what it is calling the Space Weather Analysis and Forecast System to meet the growing demand for space weather information. The system will be developed at Offutt Air Force Base, Neb., and will work in conjunction with the Space Environment Operations Center at Schriever Air Force Base, Colo.The Naval Air Warfare Center in Orlando, Fla., is looking for a small business to build a computer-aided debriefing system that will record cockpit video and audio as a way to evaluate training exercises. The system will provide recording, marking and debriefing capabilities, and will capture flight simulator data. Analysis tools also will be needed. Quotes are due March 13.

The Army Industrial Operations Command at Rock Island, Ill., seeks contractors who can support government contracts under way at the Rock Island Arsenal. Contracts that need support include weapons simulation and testing. The arsenal is an industrial complex with computer networks, engineers, technicians and craftsmen who will need support. The joint venture includes DynCorp of Reston, Va., and General Physics Corp. of Columbia, Md. The group is providing information technology support, quality assurance, business process re-engineering, civil engineering and base operations.

The joint venture won the original contract in 1995. The extension carries the work through 2003.
